Buying a wedding dress in Portugal

A client asked me last week if it’s was a good idea to buy her wedding dress here in Portugal. My advice was no, not unless you are spending a considerable amount of time here prior to the wedding. You have to consider fittings and the time taken for alterations, and from my experience you cant make any substantial savings by buying here.

You are probbaly right, but what would a dress cost us if we did decide to buy localy?

A dress here can cost anything from 800 euros upwards but probably you are realisticaly looking at paying at least 1200 Euros.

That must be for a unique design, but can you buy from department stores at a more economic price? What sort of range and price do they offer?

We do not have department stores here in the Algarve where you can buy a dress of the rack. Dresses here are unique and a shop will only sell one design of dress to one bride and then take it out of their books.
